Rachel L. Hummel, M.S., D.O.
Board Certified in Family Practice
Rachel Hummel was born in Texas but raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She was very active in sports while growing up including volleyball, soccer, basketball, and cross country. During High School she was captain of the swim and crew teams and was honored with the student scholar athlete award. She attended St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, where she earned a B.S. in Biology and continued to participate in varsity rowing for 2 years. She went on to earn a M.S. in Biology at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, where she met her husband Kyle. She went on to medical school and attended her father’s alma mater Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine where she earned her D.O. degree.

After graduation she returned to Peoria, Illinois to the Family Practice residency at the University of Illinois-College of Medicine in Peoria. After completing her family practice training she went on for additional training at the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship in Toledo, Ohio over the following year. This fellowship training prepared her for additional challenges in nonsurgical sports medicine including casting, splinting, injections and treating sports and musculoskeletal injuries for athletes of all ages and levels of participation. Prior to relocating to Bloomington, Indiana, she has spent the last 4 years practicing in Cary, North Carolina—outside Raleigh/Durham, helping to care for the Carolina Hurricanes, Carolina Ballet, Holly Springs High School, and community athletes and teaching residents from University of North Carolina Family Practice Residency at Chapel Hill.

She continues to enjoy general family practice in addition to a strong interest in sports medicine. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband Kyle and her son James, running and listening to music including Blues and Jazz.
